[ AOE2 CIVILIZATION ]
Bohemians
The monk + gunpowder civ — Hand Cannoneers with free Chemistry, Hussite Wagons shielding them, Houfnice finishing the job.
[ IDENTIDAD ]
Bohemians are the definitional monk + gunpowder civilization. Chemistry is researched for free on reaching Imperial (effective saving 200 food 100 gold plus 100 seconds of tech time), meaning Bohemian Hand Cannoneers and Bombard Cannons arrive significantly earlier than any opponent's — a 2-3 minute tempo edge in Imperial gunpowder plays. The Blacksmith and University are effectively gold-free on their tech costs: Bohemians can tech up a full university tree without the gold expenditure most civs face (mechanical interpretation: the wood-cost modifier applies, gold does not — see [VERIFY] note). Monks gain +5 HP for each Monastery technology researched (stacking up to 9 techs = +45 HP), making Bohemian monks nearly unkillable after 20 minutes of tech investment. Villagers carry +5 food from sheep, berries, and farms — a subtle but cumulative eco boost that smooths mid-game food delivery. Their signature composition is Hand Cannoneer + Hussite Wagon + Monk, with Houfnice anchoring the late Imperial push. Bohemians want closed, defensible maps (Arena, Black Forest, Fortress, Hideout) where their slow feudal is hidden behind walls and their gunpowder identity can flower without harassment. On open maps, they are competent but not dominant — a B-tier pick punished by aggressive cavalry civs.
Datos clave
⚡ Civ bonuses
Villagers mine stone 40% faster.
Chemistry is researched for free when reaching Imperial Age.
Saves 200 food + 100 gold + ~100 seconds of tech time. More importantly, it means Bohemians' gunpowder units (Hand Cannoneer, Bombard Cannon) are immediately usable upon hitting Imperial without a 100-second delay. The Houfnice (unique BBC upgrade) also benefits from this tempo window.
Monks gain +5 HP for each Monastery technology researched.
Starts at base 30 HP. With all 9 Monastery techs researched (Redemption, Atonement, Sanctity, Fervor, Faith, Illumination, Block Printing, Theocracy, plus Herbal Medicine), Bohemian monks reach ~75 HP — nearly 2.5x a normal monk. Prevents monks from dying to a single arrow volley or cavalry hit.
Blacksmith and University technologies do not cost gold.
Functionally: all tech costs at Blacksmith (Fletching, Bodkin, Bracer, Forging, Iron Casting, Blast Furnace, Scale/Chain/Plate armor lines both ground and cavalry) and University (Masonry, Architecture, Ballistics, Chemistry, Siege Engineers, Bracer, etc.) have their gold cost set to zero. Food and wood costs remain.
Villagers can carry +5 food from sheep, berries, and farms.
Each trip from a mill-side food resource delivers 5 extra food. Over a game this translates to ~10-15% fewer trips → faster aggregated food delivery → tighter Feudal/Castle transitions.
- · Paladin — Bohemians stop at Cavalier — no Paladin upgrade. Cavalry is a secondary raiding/mobility tool, never a main army.
- · Halberdier — Bohemians stop at Pikeman — no Halberdier. This is a significant weakness in late-Imperial cav-heavy matchups.
- · Arbalest — [VERIFY] — Bohemians believed to LACK Arbalest (stop at Crossbowman). Archer line is a transitional unit, not endgame.
- · Hussar — No Hussar — light cavalry capped at Light Cavalry. Trash-war mobility limited.
- · Heavy Camel Rider — No camels at all — Bohemians rely on Hand Cannoneers and Hussite Wagons to handle cavalry threats.
- · Parthian Tactics — [VERIFY] — believed absent; cavalry archer line is stopped at Cavalry Archer without full upgrades.
- · Siege Onager — Stop at Onager — siege cap limits late-game mangonel pushes. Houfnice + Hussite Wagon substitutes.
- · Heavy Scorpion — [VERIFY] — Bohemians believed to lack Heavy Scorpion.
- · Bloodlines — [VERIFY] — believed to HAVE Bloodlines; confirm current patch.
- · Supplies — [VERIFY] — believed to HAVE Supplies; confirm.
Carro Husita
mobile siege-wagon fortress; tanks damage while allied units fire from behind
- · Forward push shield: Hussite Wagon tanks arrows while Hand Cannoneers fire from behind
- · Castle Age anti-archer tool — high HP + melee armor outlasts crossbow trades
- · Siege escort: paired with Mangonel/Onager, the wagon shields the fragile siege
Houfnice
unique Imperial BBC upgrade — stronger than standard Bombard Cannon
- · Siege breaker: outranges most units and destroys buildings faster than BBC
- · Anti-mass unit: splash damage wipes clumped infantry/archers
- · Castle and wall breaker in Imperial pushes
Tácticas Wagenburg
Gunpowder units attack 25% faster (fire rate).
When: Early Imperial, right after Chemistry (free) and Hand Cannoneer production starts. On Arena, routinely researched in the Imperial transition window alongside Houfnice. Skip only if committing entirely to monks/cavalry composition (rare).
Reformas Husitas
Foot units regenerate HP when near a Hussite Wagon.
When: Late Imperial, once you have 4+ Hussite Wagons in the field. Pairs especially well with Hand Cannoneer pushes where HCs lose HP from ranged counters — Hussite Wagons heal them back up mid-fight.
🎯 Recommended build order
Castle Drop + Monk-Siege Push
Bracket 1300-1600Choose between forward castle drop for Hussite Wagon production or defensive castle for monk+mangonel base push.

❌ Common mistakes playing Bohemians
-
▸
Trying to play Bohemians aggressively in feudal
No feudal military bonus — Scouts and drush punish any aggressive Bohemian open. You lose tempo and vils.
fix:Wall front, spear+skirm, click castle at 17min, then play the civ.
▸Not researching Monastery techs
Monk HP bonus requires Monastery techs. Skipping them wastes the civ's core identity.
fix:Monastery immediately on Castle click. Research every tech available.

❌ Rushing Imperial before Castle Age push
Next match: Feudal defense → Castle Age monk+siege push at 24-27min → Imperial gunpowder transition with Houfnice + Wagenburg Tactics. This is the bracket where the civ's full identity unlocks: monks are durable enough to win conversion wars, mangonels clear mass, and Imperial gunpowder dominates extended fights.
