Goths

Cheap infantry spam with +10 pop and no housing needs — the flood civ.

Tier B infantry infantry spam huskarl no housing

[ IDENTIDAD ]

Goths are the archetypal infantry flood civilization. Three bonuses work in concert to enable that flood: (1) Infantry cost less per age — -20% in Feudal, -25% in Castle, -35% in Imperial — meaning your Champion is the cheapest Champion in the game; (2) +10 population space via the "Goths need no housing" mechanic (huts are effectively free pop through a civ bonus equivalent), which at 200-cap means an effective 210; and (3) unique techs Anarchy (Castle Age, Huskarls trainable from Barracks) and Perfusion (Imperial, Barracks work +100% faster). Combined, a Goth player in Imperial with 6 Barracks produces effectively 12 Barracks' worth of Huskarl/Champion mass. Their UU is the Huskarl — infantry with huge pierce armor, immune in practice to arrow fire, counter to every archer civ in the game. The structural weaknesses are real: no Stone Wall (only palisade/fortified), a weak monastery without Atonement or Block Printing, no Plate Barding Armor for the knight line, no Heavy Camel, no Siege Onager. Goths want to decide the game by feeding an overwhelming infantry stream until the opponent simply cannot produce counters fast enough — and the bonuses all funnel toward that one answer.

⚡ Civ bonuses

Team bonus

Barracks work +20% faster (stacks with Goth Perfusion in Imperial — allied Barracks gain ~20% speed, Goth Barracks double-stack).

Unique bonus #1

Infantry cost -20% in Feudal, -25% in Castle, -35% in Imperial Age.

Goth Imperial Champion costs ~39 food, 13 gold (vs 60 food, 20 gold base). Makes infantry flood sustainable with minimal gold compared to every other civ.

Unique bonus #2

Villagers gain +5 attack and +3 armor vs Wild Boar (easier boar luring, less vil loss). Hunting food bonus +15%.

Safer boars and more food per hunt. Minor but adds up over multiple boars and stragglers.

Unique bonus #3

Loom researched instantly and for free.

Saves 50 gold (or 25 gold + 25s research time) and grants +15 HP + pierce armor on villagers from the start.

Unique bonus #4

+10 population space — Goths need no housing for the first 10 population.

Effective pop cap is 210 instead of 200 at max settings. On 200 cap maps (standard), Goths always have 10 more military or villagers than opponents.

Unique bonus #5

Team Bonus: Barracks work +20% faster.

Allied Barracks produce infantry ~17% quicker (the additive/multiplicative stack depends on patch).

⚠️ Key tech the civ DOES NOT have
  • · Stone Walls — Goths CANNOT research Stone Walls (only Palisade Walls). This is the signature structural weakness. On Arena and walled maps, Goths are severely disadvantaged — they cannot turtle, cannot wall off safely, and are forced into aggression.
  • · Fortified Wall — No Fortified Wall upgrade — walls never become thick. Makes turtling impossible and castle defense harder.
  • · Plate Barding Armor — Goth knight line stops at Chain Barding — cavalry is a raid-only tool, never a main line.
  • · Heavy Camel Rider — No Heavy Camel — Goths rely on Halberdier for anti-cav. Camel mirror is unavailable.
  • · Siege Onager — Stop at Onager — no Siege Onager clears for Imperial pushes. Infantry flood must substitute.
  • · Heavy Scorpion — [VERIFY] — believed Goths lack Heavy Scorpion; positional scorp play limited.
  • · Atonement / Block Printing / Redemption (Monastery) — Weak monastery — lacking Atonement and Block Printing cripples monk range; Redemption absence limits anti-siege conversion.
  • · Bracer — [VERIFY — believe Goths HAVE Bracer but double-check; affects tower/skirm range]
  • · Architecture / Treadmill Crane — [VERIFY] — affects building HP / build speed; minor but worth confirming
🛡️ Unique unit · Castle Age

Huscarle

anti-archer infantry with massive pierce armor

  • · Anti-archer heavy — immune in practice to longbow/xbow volleys due to pierce armor
  • · Raid woodlines and gold piles; their speed + pierce armor lets them survive tower + archer response
  • · Primary Castle Age flood unit via Anarchy (from Barracks)
⚗️ Unique tech · Castle Age

Anarquía

Huskarls can be created at Barracks.

When: Immediately after Castle Age click, right after first Huskarls or Castle is producing. Often the first UT click of the game for Goths.

⚗️ Unique tech · Imperial Age

Perfusión

Barracks units are produced 100% faster (Barracks work at double speed).

When: First or second Imperial click after reaching Imperial. Priority over second UT research timing (Perfusion IS the UT); typically accompanies Blast Furnace and Champion upgrade.

🎯 Recommended build order

Drush + M@A + Huskarl Flood

Bracket 1300-1600

Feudal pressure is expected at this bracket. Disguise the Castle-Age Huskarl commit with aggressive feudal raids.

Alternativa

Fast Imperial Perfusion — Opponent scouted as booming civ without early aggression (Persians, Khmer boom, Chinese 3-TC)

❌ Common mistakes playing Goths

  • ▸

Researching Loom after Goths already have it for free

Wastes 25-50 gold clicking a tech you already have — Loom is free at game start for Goths.

fix:Never click Loom. Start mining gold/producing vils immediately.

    ▸

    Building too many houses

Goths have +10 pop from their civ bonus — you need fewer houses than other civs for the first 30 pop.

fix:Build only 1-2 houses initially; rely on +10 pop bonus; build more houses starting around pop 25-28.

    ▸

    Skipping Anarchy in Castle Age

Without Anarchy, Huskarls only train from Castles at 1-per-16s rate. With Anarchy + 4 Barracks, throughput is 5-6x higher.

fix:Anarchy is the FIRST UT click after Castle Age click. Before upgrades. Before anything.
