[ AOE2 CIVILIZATION ]

Burmese

Infantry + Arambai bruisers. Weak early, oppressive Castle-Imperial with free wood eco.

Tier C infantry elephant unique cav archer monk support

[ IDENTIDAD ]

Burmese are a "late-game bruiser" civ with a fragile early game. Their economy bonus — free Lumber Camp upgrades (Double-Bit Axe, Bow Saw, Two-Man Saw) — saves 300 wood + 200 food + 275 gold over the game but gives zero feudal combat boost. Their team bonus (relics visible on map from game start) is situational. In Castle Age they unlock Arambai, a cavalry archer with extremely high attack (17 pierce) but infamously poor accuracy (~50% base, ~65% with Thumb Ring) — a mass-micro unit that nukes villager lines and non-skirm armies. Their Battle Elephant line gets +1/+2 armor per age (Howdah adds more), making them the tankiest elephants in the game. Infantry get +1 attack per age stacking to +3 in Imperial — the highest passive infantry attack in the game. Monks get +3 attack per theology upgrade (stacks to +6 with all four), giving Burmese a Fanaticism-backed conversion and support identity. The weakness: no Plate Barding Armor, no Halberdier, no Hand Cannoneer, no Ring Archer Armor, no Eagles — a brittle feudal plus a Castle Age that relies on Arambai accuracy RNG until mass is reached.

⚡ Civ bonuses

Team bonus

Relics are visible on the map from the start of the game (revealed for all allies).

Unique bonus #1

Lumber Camp upgrades (Double-Bit Axe, Bow Saw, Two-Man Saw) are free.

Saves ~775 resources (300 wood, 200 food, 275 gold) over a full game plus ~90s of research time. Wood eco scales without the usual Lumber Camp tax.

Unique bonus #2

Battle Elephants get +1/+2/+3 armor (melee/pierce/? — stacking per age starting Castle).

Makes Burmese Battle Elephants the tankiest in the game. Paired with Howdah UT, armor reaches +3 melee / +3 pierce on Elite BE.

Unique bonus #3

Infantry (Militia, Spearman, Eagle lines) get +1 attack per age starting Feudal (stacks to +3 in Imperial).

Feudal Militia hit +1, Castle Long Swordsman +2, Imperial Champion +3 attack over base. Champions hit 16 base attack (vs 13 stock) — highest in the game.

Unique bonus #4

Monks get +3 attack for each theology-related upgrade researched (Atonement, Redemption, Sanctity, Fervor).

With all four upgrades, Burmese Monks have ~6-8 attack (melee), letting them garrison as actual combat units. [VERIFY exact stacking]

⚠️ Key tech the civ DOES NOT have
  • · HalberdierPikeman is the terminal anti-cav unit. Against Paladin civs or camel civs, this hurts badly. Elephants partly compensate (bulk absorbs knight charges).
  • · Hand Cannoneer + Chemistry[VERIFY — Burmese HAVE Chemistry but NO Hand Cannoneer. Confirm. Limits siege tech: no BBC means Imperial siege is Onager + Capped Ram only.]
  • · Ring Archer ArmorArbalest line is 1 armor short of full kit. Arambai (cav archer) don't care (they have their own armor class), but generic crossbow line is soft.
  • · Plate Barding ArmorCavalry/Battle Elephants cap at 1 level lower pierce armor. Battle Elephants partly compensate via +1/+2 armor civ bonus. Cavalier (if present) is weaker.
  • · Parthian TacticsArambai specifically don't benefit — but generic Cav Archer line (if present) has softer armor. Arambai has its own armor class.
  • · PaladinCavalier is terminal (if present). Battle Elephant is the heavy-cav substitute.
  • · Arbalest[VERIFY — believed to have Arbalest. Confirm.]
  • · Eagle Scout / Eagle Warrior lineNot an Amerindian civ — no eagles. Expected.
  • · Heavy Cavalry ArcherStops at Cavalry Archer. Arambai replaces the role, but generic CA is weak.
🛡️ Unique unit · Castle Age

Arambai

high-damage, low-accuracy cavalry archer

  • · Villager raid — 17 attack one-shots vils at Elite with Forging
  • · Castle drop + Arambai production is the signature Burmese all-in
  • · Burst-fire on static targets (siege, castles, TCs) where accuracy matters less
⚗️ Unique tech · Castle Age

Caballería de Manipur

Cavalry (Knight line, Scout line) and Arambai gain +3 attack vs buildings.

When: Castle Age, after Arambai production is online and castle drops or raid windows are planned.

⚗️ Unique tech · Imperial Age

Howdah

Battle Elephants gain +1/+2 armor (melee/pierce).

When: Imperial, before massing Elite Battle Elephants for pushes.

🎯 Recommended build order

M@A → Arambai Castle Drop

Bracket 1300-1600

Choose between standard drop + TC boom, or forward castle drop + Arambai all-in based on scouting.

Alternativa

Archers into ArambaiOpponent scouted as cav-heavy (Mongols, Franks) where M@A is unsafe

❌ Common mistakes playing Burmese

  • Trying to Feudal-aggress without military bonus

Burmese have no feudal military advantage. M@A is fine but scout rush or archer rush in feudal is weaker than most civs.

fix:Either M@A pressure (+1 attack helps) OR Fast Castle. Don't try scout rush.

    Not spending the free-wood saving

Free Lumber Camp upgrades save ~300 wood over the game. Most low-ELO players don't notice the surplus. That wood should fund second TC or 2 ranges.

fix:When you hit Castle Age, immediately start a second TC. The saved wood is already there.

🛡️ Cuidado con estas unidades

Skirmisher mass (any civ) HIGH

Arambai is pierce-damage cav archer; Skirm bonus vs archers applies. Elite Skirm melts Arambai.

Mangonel / Onager HIGH

AoE clear on Arambai clumps; BE bunches also die.

Camel Rider / Heavy Camel / Imperial Camel HIGH

Bonus vs cavalry = BE melts. No Halberdier to reply.

Mameluke HIGH

Anti-cav ranged + HP — shreds BE and Arambai alike.

Halberdier (any civ) HIGH

BE counter-unit. Burmese have no Halb to mirror.

Genoese Crossbow MEDIUM

+Cav bonus + Pavise — shreds BE + Arambai.
